Sharks can prove to be a powerful teaching tool in any science classroom. Whether you’re teaching about adaptations, senses, food chains, conservation or anatomy, you can use your students’ interest in this often misunderstood predator to foster excitement in a variety of science topics. We’ll look at different ways to use sharks as a teaching tool, including a shark dissection.
Teachers grades 3 – 10
The natural world is never too far away in New Jersey! We will discuss New Jersey’s natural history, from glaciers, to dinosaurs, to forest fires, and the rich ecosystems right in our own backyard. We’ll look at flora, fauna, and fossils and explore ideas for developing future New Jersey armature naturalists, both in and out of the classroom.

Dolphins and Seals and Whales, oh my! Join us at this interactive workshop, designed to help you teach your students about marine mammals, their special adaptations for survival, and how we can conserve and protect these ocean creatures.
Teachers grades 6 – 12
Without bones, we would be a big pool of jelly! So how do animals without bones get around? Learn about some cool aquatic invertebrates, their secrets for survival and how you can easily bring the mystery of these boneless creatures into your classroom..
Teachers grades K – 12
Trash, sludge, waste…no matter what you call it, when it gets into the ocean, bad things can happen. How does pollution affect the oceans and the critters that call it home? What does “Think Globally, Act Locally” mean any way? How can you and your students, or family become involved in conserving wildlife in habitats?
Teachers grades 6 - 12
Jump into the salt marsh and prepare to get muddy as we explore this diverse ecosystem. Hands-on activities including seining, animal identification and water testing will increase your appreciation for this important habitat.
Teachers grades K – 12
Join us as we take you for a walk along the beach where you'll discover different ways you can use the beach, and the critters that call it home, as a teaching tool in your classroom. Craft ideas, shell collecting and animal identification will all be a part of this hands-on workshop.
